The museum at FIT has long been recognized for its innovative and award-winning exhibitions, but less well-known is the fact that its permanent collection encompasses more than 50,000 garments and accessories and 30,000 textiles dating from the eighteenth century to the present. The exhibition is themed alphabetically, with representation of 50 designers form Alaia to Zoran. Visitors have the chance to see mid to 20th century fashion from some of the most iconic names ever to enter an atelier, including Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, and Miuccia Parada. One of the most noteworthy pieces is a digitally printed silk chiffon dress from Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2010 collection -his final runway.
